Most golfers will have their skills put to the test by the Northwest Corner of America’s inventive golf courses and stunning natural scenery. Golf course landscapes in Oregon and Washington include forested hills, big trees, rocky lava fields, sagebrush-filled gullies, wetlands, gorgeous lakes, rivers, and desert outcroppings.
Washington Golfers See It All
Unbeatable views can be found at a few of Washington’s golf courses. You can play near active volcanoes, under tall mountains, in the shadow of islands and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, next to rivers, in an alpine desert, and in other beautiful settings.
Orcas, San Juan, and Lopez Island are the three islands in the San Juan Islands, west of Seattle, that have public golf courses. As a result, island-to-island golf is a great activity in the San Juan Islands. There are a large number of golf courses in the Seattle area, ranging in length from a 9-hole course with a length of 705 yards and a par of 27 to an 18-hole course with a length of 7,093 yards and a par of 72.
There are nearly 20 public golf courses in the Tacoma area, many of which are in the city of Tacoma. Spanaway has two public golf courses, three in Auburn, three in DuPont, and one in each of Ft. Lewis, Puyallup, Sumner, Union, and Gig Harbor. As a result, golfers from Tacoma and Seattle will enjoy Washington.
Suncadia Rope Rider in Cle Elum, Washington, covers 7,271 yards. This is the fourth city in Central Washington with a course longer than 7,000 yards, making it a great location for long-distance players.
There are five public courses in Eastern Washington that are 7,000 yards or longer. They are situated in Walla Walla, Moses Lake, Pullman, Richland, Kennewick, and Moses Lake. Among the best-rated courses in the state are the WSU Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman and the Kennewick Canyon Lakes Golf Course.
Oregon Golfers Play Everywhere
Numerous areas along the Oregon coast offer opportunities to see deer, elk, waterfowl, and other wildlife. This area’s natural terrain has plenty of water hazards, hills, sand dunes, and forests to keep you on your toes. Golfers can play within 100 yards of the Pacific Ocean, drive into strong winds, and choose from legendary courses here.
Portland, which has a staggering number of public golf courses within a 30-minute drive of the city center, is one of Oregon’s top golfing destinations. These include three sites for multiple courses.
Central Oregon is a great place for avid golfers. There are more than a dozen public 18-hole golf courses located between Black Butte and Sunriver. At the Crooked River Ranch, a course that spans a 300-foot-deep gorge is one of two that are longer than 7000 yards at Black Butte Ranch.
Three 18-hole courses are available at Eagle Crest Resort in Redmond, and there are additional courses throughout the city. Four 18-hole courses can be found in Bend, and two more are available to the public at Sunriver Resort. There are plenty of resort accommodations.
Eleven cities in Eastern Oregon offer public courses. In Baker City, Milton-Freewater, Pendleton, and Umatilla, there are 18-hole golf courses.
In Oregon and Washington, there is a ton of fantastic golfing. These two states offer nearly 350 public courses. They charge anywhere from less than $10 per game to more than $200. There are numerous occasions where playing is more affordable. One way to save money on green fees is to take advantage of special offers like twilight, early bird, senior, junior, and military discounts. Some golf courses even allow you to play for just a third of the regular price.
